Mathematic Toon Doo

Toon Doo is a fun website that allows the students to create their own cartoon strip. This web tool allows the kids to put their own creative & humorous spin on the concepts we teach.

Blabberize a Math Song

This song was written by one of my former 6th grade math students- it is being sung for you by my oh-so awesome husband and the photo is my dog, Charlie. It takes a village! I have no doubt if I had known about blabberize two years ago, my student who wrote the song would have surely made something terrific with it! This is a super fun site that allows one to be really creative. Your picture, your words- an extremely goofy final product!

Sumo Paint & Problem Solving

Drawing a picture is a problem solving strategy that helps our students determine the correct answer in many multi-step word problems. However, sometimes it's a challenge to get the kids to actually draw the picture. Imagine how much fun they will have when they go to Sumo Paint to practice problem solving!! I found this problem on the TEA website:
Buster’s mother made 17 pancakes for the 5 members of Buster’s family. If each
family member receives the same number of pancakes for breakfast, how many
pancakes will each family member receive?

Check out the original Sumo picture to help solve the problem- I bet your students could do much better!!

Using Voki to create a talking math friend

I just love this one- the kids can choose from a myriad of critters or people and give them a voice. The kids can selct clothing and background too! They can use their own voice with a microphone or use text. Either way, it is way cute!!

Glogster, Math & Metaphors- what a trio!

Metaphors are a powerful way to reinforce vocabulary. Below is a glogster that shows some examples! The glogster site has all of the tools the kids will need to create a display that allows them to express their personality and their math knowledge.

WORDLE in math............?

Have the students write a paper in wordle- any math topic will do! A procedure, a multi-step word problem, or just a personal math essay will be so much more exciting to the kids when it is presented in a Wordle. This Wordle shows the fifth grade Math TEKS- check it out- the word STUDENT is the biggest because it is used the most! As it should be!

Animoto & Math Vocabulary

What a neat way for your students to show they "know" their math terms. This is a method to practice vocabulary that the students can "own." All the kids need to do is find some pictures to model their term, choose some friendly background music, and the site creates the video. Truly this takes a few minutes- what an engaging anchor station this would be! And imagine studying for a vocabulary test-way fun!
